This one’s for all the advocates and hypocrites, the experts and hustlers, and wanna-be change makers who are writing, and speaking, and screaming, and singing, and demonstrating to change the system—while all the while making a killing on the system they say they want to change.
Speaking the truth of the remarkable Ice T:
You can’t come out on a record dissing the system and be on a label that’s connected to the system.
You can’t say you want to help children read if you won’t ensure their unique needs are met.
You can’t say you want to wipe illiteracy off the map if you won’t ensure the company with your name and image plastered all over it requires schools implement its programs with fidelity.
You can’t say you want to help children and then blame schools for not training its staff to use your company’s programs.
You can’t advocate for children in your school division if you don’t educate yourself on what the kids need.
You can’t help the children in your school division if you lie to protect your faults rather than hold your division accountable for problems.
You can’t say you’re a part of the solution when you are a part of the problem.
This one’s for all the advocates and hypocrites, the experts and hustlers, and wanna-be change makers who are writing, and speaking, and screaming, and singing, and demonstrating to change the system.
You have power.
Change the system.
Teach children to read.
Change the world.
